should I get my hot tub serviced

A hot tub is a great investment in your wellness. It provides a relaxing enviornment away from the stresses of everyday life, helping boost your physical and mental health. Looking after your hot tub ensures that you will get many years of relaxation and enjoyment from your spa. One of the best ways to look after your hot tub is through regular service. In this blog post we will cover various aspects to help you understand whether hot tub servicing is worth the cost including: what is a hot tub service?, the benefits of hot tub servicing, how much does a hot tub service cost? and common questions.

What is a Hot Tub Service? What Does it Include?

A hot tub service can be defined in different ways by different companies. Usually they can be either a basic drain and refill service or a more comprehensive annual service with component checks. At Happy Hot Tubs we break our two service offerings into a Spa Fresh and Annual Service.

Spa Fresh (Drain, Clean and Refill)

The Spa Fresh is hot tub water change, flush and cleaning service. This service includes:

  • Deep clean and sanitise plumbing and pipework system
  • Drain water from the hot tub
  • Clean the tub with spa surface cleaner and clean the spa filters
  • Re-fill with fresh water
  • Treat water with sanitiser or suitable water care formula

Annual Service with 26-point check

This visit, which is recommended annually is essentially an MOT for your hot tub. The service involves a 26-point check of all major components, as well as a flush, deep clean and refill of the hot tub water.

  • A 26-point key component inspection
  • Deep clean and sanitise plumbing and pipework system
  • Drain water from the hot tub
  • Clean the tub with spa surface cleaner
  • Re-fill with fresh water
  • Treat water with sanitiser or suitable water care formula

Benefits of Regular Hot Tub Servicing

  • Pipework remains clear of biofilm and debris, preventing strain on pumps.
  • Small issues can be spotted and rectified. The benefit of this happening during a warranty period is that they will also be covered without cost and prevent larger issues in the future.
  • Improved filter cleanliness keeps water fresher for longer and reduces pump strain.
  • Hot tub will heat more efficiently due to pipework and filter clean.
  • Water quality guidance and support from experienced technicians will help prevent water chemistry issues causing damage or harm to users.
  • Service history increases re-sell value vs. a hot tub with no service history.
  • Hot tubs that are serviced regularly are used more than those are not, maximising the benefits you get from your spa.

How Much does a Hot Tub Service cost?

At Happy Hot Tubs a full Annual Service is priced at £299 and our drain/refill Spa Fresh is £199. Customers can save money when they opt for regular service contracts. For example our Lasting Care package includes 1 x Annual Service and 2 x Spa Fresh services per year (plus lots more!) for a £650 annual payment or £59.99 per month.

So is a Hot Tub Service Worth it?

In our opinion regular servicing from a reputable hot tub company is absolutley worth the money for the reasons outlined above. Even following the flush and clean process yourself every 3-4 months will lead to better water quality and increased usage, meaning you will get more from your investment!

Common Hot Tub Service Questions

How often should I get my hot tub serviced?

A hot tub should be drained and refilled with fresh water every 3-4 months so the most you would want a hot tub serviced by a professional (even just a basic clean IE Spa Fresh) would be every 3-4 months. It is quite common for hot tubbers to have one Annual Service per year just to keep things in good condition.

Can I service my hot tub myself?

The drain, clean and refill part of a service is easy enough to do yourself. See our guide here. The component check aspect of an Annual Service is more technical and our skilled team are factory-trained to know what to look for (failing parts, signs of wear etc).
