The Spa Frog Complete Floating System is a 2-part floating bromine chemical system for hot tubs. Bromine is an alternative to chlorine that comes with the benefits of being softer on your skin and operating more effectively athigher temperatures. The Spa Frog System comes with a floating holder that is reusable and two cartridges - one bromine cartridge and one mineral/conditioning cartridge. The bromine cartridge is used to kill bacteria in your hot tub and the conditioning cartridge will improve your hot tubbing experience by making the water feel softer and by neutralising your PH.

Customer Questions
I have been using the spa frog for a couple of weeks now. Despite setting it up as per instructions with chlorine shock, I still can’t get a bromine reading above 0.3ppm. The yellow tube is open to full (6). The water does seem to smell of bromine though. How should I proceed?
This could be a few things. Worth checking if you are using a reliable test method. Decent strips are fine but some on the market are poor. It could need an additional shock, perhaps there is some biofilm in the pipework that is reducing sanitiser efficiency...
I currently use Bromine granules and Silk Balance Gems Water Treatment Pods, but I am thinking to change to the Spa Frog. I'm not sure what the mineral cartridge does. Does it replace the need for the Silk?
The frog mineral cartridge performs some similar actions to Silk Balance but it is less advanced. It will not lock your PH and will not soften the water in the same way as Silk however it does have some softening properties and will help keep your water...

Hot Tub Start Up

  • Always drain and refill your spa at least every 4 months.
  • Clean and replace filter cartridges when dirty.
  • Balance water as follows: PH: 7.2-7.8 / Total Alkalinity: 80-120ppm / Calcium Hardness: 150-250 / Total Dissolved Solids: <1500 / Free Bromine: 3.0-5.0ppm
  • IMPORTANT - Before using cartridges, establish an initial residual of 3-5ppm bromine or chlorine with a granular brominating concentrate (which typically contains 85% sodium dichlor (chlorine) and 15% sodium bromide) OR a chlorine shock.

Setting Cartridges

  • Set the blue conditioning cartridge to wide open on #6 by holding the bottom and turning the top until the number 6 shows in the setting window. No further adjustments are necessary.
  • With a freshly filled spa, initially set the yellow bromine cartridge on #5 for the first 24 hours ONLY. Then the first week or so, before each use, test the water and adjust the cartridge by 1 setting per day until the bromine stabilises to at least 3ppm.

Using The Floating System

  • Insert both cartridges into the green floating holder by pushing them into the openings until they stay in place.
  • Let the Spa Frog System free-float in the spa.
  • When using the spa simply remove the SPA FROG system, drain most of the water into the spa and set to the side of the spa upside-down so that all excess water drains into the holder. Then place back in when you have finished using the spa.

Replacing Cartridges

  • The blue Spa Frog Conditioning Cartridge should be replaced every 4 months or when draining and refilling your hot tub.
  • Replace the SPA FROG Bromine Cartridge when empty. Drain water to ensure the cartridge is empty when discarded then discard to general waste. Cartridge life depends on spa size and number of users.

Regular Spa Care

  1. Run filtration system as recommended by your hot tub manufacturer.
  2. Regularly test water with test strips for PH, Alkalinity and Bromine.
  3. Maintain a 3-5ppm Bromine Level in your spa.
  4. Shock the spa once a week. Additional shock may be needed if the spa has heavy use.
