The On The Go Portable Water Softener is designed to be used with your Hot Tub to provide you with high quality water that prevents rust & water stains, improves odour of water and will improve rough, dry skin. The water softener requires no tools or experience to fill your hot tub. The water softener will fill your Hot Tub with soft water and usually provide enough soft water for any top ups before you drain it down again, depending on use and size of the spa. The addition of 750g of regular table salt and flushing through, as described in the instructions, will regenerate your softener to begin the cycle over again.
How does it work?
The resin beads inside the water softener (should never be removed from the bottle) are what make the magic happen. Hard water with calcium and magnesium flows through this resin and, in a process called ion exchange, the hardness ions in the water trade places with soft ions on the resin beads. The result is soft water.
How do you regenerate the softener so that it continues to provide soft water?
The addition of regular salt and flushing through, as described in the instructions, will regenerate your softener to begin the cycle over again. This “washes” the resin beads by forcing the minerals out of the resin beads and replaces them with the sodium ions. The hardness minerals are then flushed away from the softener by running the water through for a short period. Please note that after regeneration, you will experience very hard water coming out of the softener for a period while the hardness is flushed out.
How can you tell if the softener is producing soft water?
Using Hot Spring 5-Way or Happy Premium Test Strips you can test the water after adding salt to make sure you only place the hose in the hot tub once the water is soft.
What level should hardness be in my hot tub?
